The Dunes

I've seen other coastal areas with similar beaches and dunes, this seascape is special to me. I've spent a lot of time along the ocean with friends in between art shows, and it has inspired quite a few realistic paintings. There's a special feeling to the beach, the place where ocean meets the land, and human dominion ends. We come and go freely upon the land, but we will always be but visitors to the sea.

A collection of seashells? A collection of art?  Or just a collection of feelings for the sea shores, beaches, and old houses that give us warm memories about American life.

Just for fun, I've included two of my own paintings in this one.  After all, I have to put something on the walls...it might as well be good!

 

Along the Coast

Though influenced by images from  Padre Island and Pensacola, this realistic painting is  a seascape of neither. It is more a painting of feelings for a type of place, than the representation of any specific ocean or beach.

Pelican Flight

Realistic painting allows me to create a great sense of depth which, like this piece, invites the viewer into the places I create.

I love to include little bits of detail, like the third pelican in the window, or the partial painting on the wall which is, in fact, one of my own Western landscapes.

The Shell

Deciding what to use as the focus of a new realistic painting is always a challenge.  In this case, I chose a shell from my collection of various shells I've gathered over the years and travels doing art shows.  I enjoy setting them out in the sun and capturing them in different light. This one in particular has a nice translucency to it.
