Realistic art for impact
The
individual mountain peaks (if they are featured) are portraits
of specific mountains and mountain ranges, mostly in the Rocky
Mountain West. Landscape painting has always been my
passion, and the aspen and evergreen trees, the meadows and lush
wildflowers, are inspired by the hundreds of photographs and drawings that
I've made over my 30 years of exploring the West. The final paintings,
realistic though they seem, are not simply traditional landscape
paintings...they are imaginary creations,
combinations of dozens of bits and pieces of photographs and
drawings that I have taken in my travels over the years.
Combined with the foregrounds that are either home interiors or close up
details of various aspects of the natural landscape, the
illusion is one of great depth, and is created to invite the viewer into the finished
landscape painting. One of the reasons I love realistic
art so much is because I can use it so effectively to create
these illusions. Also, I believe that realistic art is the
finest technique that can be employed to capture light. The
delicate highlights that I can create on surfaces of trees,
meadows and man made objects conveys the warmth I intend to use
to help draw the viewer into my seascape and landscape
paintings.
While the landscapes and mountain
ranges in the distance of my finished work are virtual portraits
of specific peaks, everything else in my paintings is created
from imagination, enhanced by dozens of images of old homes,
weathered furnishings and antiques, and photos I've taken of
places I've been which fascinated me for the unique textures and
the play of light on wonderful surfaces. The goal, again, is to
invite you into my art. Anything I can create which
enhances and accomplishes that end is desirable. Anything which
gives you, the observer, a sense of "being there"
accomplishes my goal. |
