The dunes in this piece were inspired mostly by a series of photos I took on a trip to Port Aransas with my friends, Terry and Sharon Groseclose. It was Terry who, one afternoon, suggested a side trip to Padre Island. I myself was not that motivated to venture into the Texas heat to walk along yet another beach, but Terry prevailed.
Fortunately for me.
I've taken photos of a lot of beaches and dunes since then, and the placement of the house in this piece is pure fantasy, but the concept behind the beach series and all the paintings I've created since then would not have been possible without this initial trip.
